Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Chipperfield Clarendon CC 2nd XI on Sat 30 May 2026 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 37 runs
Match report
On a warm and sunny afternoon the Northwood Town 3s welcomed Chipperfield Clarendon 2s to Chestnut Avenue, looking for our first win of the season.
Chipperfield won the toss and asked Town to bat first on what was a dry, flat track. Openers Bentvelzen and Malik started watchfully but solidly, with a couple of lovely shots from Malik to find the boundary despite a slowish outfield. Malik then fell to one that gripped from the bowling of Sylvester followed by Bentvelzen who unluckily saw a ball that didn't bounce ricochet off his foot onto his stumps. Now at the crease were skipper Jambulingam and Bharodiya who just like in the week previously built a solid partnership along with some fine shots. Jambulingam was out just before the drinks break but had helped to see Town into a decent position. When play resumed so did the hitting from Bharodiya but an unfortunate mix up saw Srivatsan run out, starting a mini collapse with both Shah and Firfire being done in the flight form the bowling of Asad. Sadhwani arrived to steady the ship and built a very useful partnership with Bharodiya, running hard and finding the gaps on a regular basis before unluckily being trapped in front. Bharodiya brought up his fifty in style with a big six down the ground as he and Krishnamoorthy pushed the score up past 150. Bharodiya was eventually stumped trying to advance both the scoring and the bowler. Krishnamoorthy, having to retire with a calf strain, left Babukutty and Parmar to see out the final balls with Town finishing on a decent score of 165 for 8 from our 40 overs.
Following the interval, Parmar and Babukutty bowled steadily with the new ball but had to be patient before the first wicket fell, which was brought about via a good catch by Jambulingam off the bowling of Parmar. The Chipperfield batsmen continued to dig in though and built steadily but some disciplined bowling from Malik made sure they hadn't got away form us as they reached drinks only one wicket down. After the break, Town came back out reenergised and the introduction of Bharodiya into the attack proved dividend as he quickly took a couple of wickets to blow the game wide open. The returning Parmar then found the edge of the Chipperfield captain with Krishnamoorthy taking the catch behind. Town were now on a roll as Bharodiya continued to chip away in tandem with the tight bowling of Jambulingam who also picked up a wicket in the process. A smart catch from Shah brought about Bharodiya's forth before he completed his five for. Babukutty finished the job, bowling Chipperfield's last batsman bringing Town their first win of the season by 37 runs.
It was an important win today for the Northwood Town 3s as we negotiate the step up in division but there are positive signs going forward with continued improvement in all departments. The team spirit was again fantastic today, epitomised by Krishnamoorthy who was immense behind the stumps despite carrying an injury all day. Kishan Bharodiya of course deserves special praise for his outstanding performance.
