London Colney CC 2nd XI v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 27 Jun 2026 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 73 runs

Match report After being surprisingly put into bat on what can only be described as ‘a road’ away at London Colney 2s, Northwood Town 3s amassed an impressive 220-6 from their 40 overs.

Opener Ben Rawson-Jones put the Colney new ball pair to the sword early on as Town raced to 29 after just two overs. Rawson-Jones soon holed out for 42 off just 20 balls after an opening stand of 62 with youngster Charlie Cadman, playing his first league match of the season.

Cadman then grew in confidence to keep the momentum going, defending the good balls and dispatching the bad ones - often over the deep square leg boundary using powerful strokeplay best described as a cricket-hockey fusion. Jonathan Bentvelzen knuckled down to ensure there was no flurry of wickets - putting on 60 for the third wicket with an increasingly rampant Cadman.

Runs just kept flowing and a maiden Town ton looked in sight for Cadman, but he perished for a mightily impressive run-a-ball 83 including four giant sixes. Simply superb. Tanush Shah then played a smart anchor role reaching 23 not out as captain Ganesh Jambulingham (23) and Sumeet Khetia (10) played brave cricket to ensure a rousing end to the innings.

It’s at this point that one must mention the first ball six creamed by Khetia off a good length delivery. A simple cry of ‘mooo’ would not do that shot justice. As a result, a whole paragraph is devoted to it.

In response, London Colney came out fighting. Cadman’s opening over was dispatched for three sixes and it looked like game on. But he showed character to pull it back, while at the other end the relentlessly disciplined Mitesh Parmar gave them nothing to hit. A key breakthrough came when Parmar dismissed their dangerous big hitting opener for 37 off 28 balls.

From then on, wickets fell at regular intervals as Colney fell increasingly behind the run rate. Jambulingam and Tanush Shah operated excellently in tandem as the change bowlers, both picking up three well deserved wickets apiece for hardly any runs through their nagging accuracy. An absolute peach of a delivery put Shah on a hat-trick, but it wasn’t to be.

Khetia and Rawson-Jones combined to clean up the tail and Town walked off the pitch with a thoroughly deserved 73 run victory and a much needed 30 points.
