Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Sandridge CC 1st XI on Sat 30 May 2026 at 12:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 124 runs

Match report Town hosted Sandridge on what was going to be a hot sunny day. The wicket looked nice and hard and finally Town skipper won the toss in the 4th game of the season. And a good toss to win at that. Town team looking strong with the inclusion of players that had been missing in the first few games were hopeful of a win to get back on track. The openers Deepak Raj and Rohit walked in to bat and started where they left off in the last game. They smashed it to every corner of the ground, especially Deepak. He seemed to be seeing the ball like a football. Played some glorious cover driver and pulls to get the score moving at a rapid pace. Rohit after hitting a huge six and four, trying to keep going got out. In walks in Nischay with the plan to keep rotating the strike and letting Deepak continue with his onslaught. Deepak continued thrashing the bowlers, got tohis 50 hitting a beautiful six over long on and got out the next ball trying to do the same. Now the plan was to just keep rotating strike, getting the odd boundary here and there, as as seen in the past Town middle order is shaky and is not able to make the most of good starts in the past. Nischay joined by Keeran in the middle didnt last long as Keeran got out cheaply. In walks Jay Patel and along with Nischay starts playing exactly as per plan, getting those 1s and 2s and keeping the run rate reasonable which was now around 5 r.p.o down from about 8 rpo at the start. Nischay got out LBW after scoring a good 19 runs. Iqbal joined Jay in the middle and reminded Jay that its the same plan, to bat as long as possible, no risks and waiting for the bad balls. Both batters kept ticking the scoreboard getting the 1s and 2s with the odd boundary till iqbal played a tired shot getting caught at mid-on, out for 34. Pratik joined in and immediately showed how good he is rotating strike and getting the odd boundary. Another good partnership before Jay got out trying to hit a pull shot and completely missed it and got bowled. just before drinks and just 3 shot of his 50. Great innings!!!!! The lower order did their part and scored a few runs with Jack scoring 25 in his first game of the season with Town ending at 257 all out in the 47th over, Towns highest score this season by quite a big margin.

Sandrigde openers came out with a plan to score quick runs. The did manage to get a a few boundaries before Keval got through the defence of Duncan Ferguson getting bowled out off an inside edge. The No.2 and No.3 started building a good partnership while scoring runs at a healthy run rate of around 6 runs per over. Change of bowling bringing Pratik in and Iqbal from the other end. This put the brakes on a bit building pressure on the ooposition eventually leading to a wicket by Iqbal getting one to turn a hitting Umar right in front of the wickets, last ball before drinks. After drinks Izhar was trying to get one over the boundary only managing to skying one high to covers, a brilliant catch by Aashir, even he was surprised he caught it. This opened the gates a bit and Town managed to get another 2 wickets getting the opposition now to 80/5. Another change by the Captain who got Rohit in to bowl. Spin from both sides worked well as also seen in the Town's innings. Rohit immdeiately got amongst the wickets and now the opposition had big hitters coming in hitting Iqbal for 3 big sixes. But with the ball turning spinners weren't too worried about them trying to hit big, still giving flight and mixing it up. Wickets kept falling at regualr intervals and the oppo were eventually bowled ot for 133, with Rohit ending with 3 wkts and Iqbal with 5.

So, overall a good batting performance set up the game for the bowlers who came through which they often do. The fielding was great, backing up the bowlers with good catching and good ground fielding keeping the pressure on the opposition. In the end the kipper applauded everyone for their great efforts, especially the batters for showig responsibility and staying at the wicket for long to make sure they get enough runs on the board. If this is how we can take responsibility, especially the senior players, there is no doubt that we can put a good target or chasing down a target.

Onwards and upwards. hopefully this kind of performance can be consistent.
