Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Leverstock Green CC 3rd XI on Sat 11 Jul 2026 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 102 runs

Match report On a roasting hot day, Town unfortunately failed to win the toss and were put into the field by a confident promotion-chasing Leverstock Green side.

A fantastic opening burst from Aashir Rifat was unlucky not to reap more than one wicket, as he and Manikandan Pandara kept the aggressive Leverstock Green order in check. Much improved commitment in the field on a super fast outfield also stemmed the flow of runs. The introduction of young spinner Tanush Shah saw Leverstock’s batsmen being frequently bamboozled - and much like Rifat, he deserved more than just one wicket.

The introduction of Ben Rawson-Jones into the attack saw three wickets tumble in quick succession, along with a dropped caught and bowled opportunity that deflected onto the stumps to run out the non-striker. At 120-8 in the searing heat, Town had worked extremely hard to be in such a dominant position.

Then it all went wrong.

Two dropped catches, a (very tough) stumping opportunity and most critically a (not so tough) run out opportunity all combined to let Leverstock’s Green lower order off the hook. They grew in confidence and the old ball sat up nicely for them to dispatch to the boundary at alarmingly regular intervals. Inconsistent bowling lengths from Rawson-Jones and increasingly jaded fielding efforts allowed the visitors to finish on 197/9 off their 40 overs. It was a bitter pill to swallow having been so strong across the first 30 overs.

Sadly, the downward turn in momentum continued with the batting effort. Much like earlier in the match, the new ball proved hard to face on a deteriorating pitch and wickets fell at regular intervals. Throughout it all, Tanush Shah defied his age of 14 years to stand tall - scoring a resilient 23 off 57 balls.

No other Town batsman reached double figures, although captain Ganesh Jambulingham and Vishal Sadhwani both put a high value on their wickets and stuck around long enough to create audible frustration amongst the Leverstock Green players. When the final wicket fell in the 34th over, Town were 102 runs short of what proved to be a daunting target after that long stint in the field.
