Match report With promotion hopes still alive, Northwood Town welcomed Watford Town knowing that nothing less than victory would do if they were to keep their push towards the top of the table on track. Despite being without a couple of regulars, Town still fielded a strong side and went into the game confident of securing a much-needed win.

Watford won the toss and elected to bat, setting Northwood a target of 237 from their 50 overs.

Town's bowlers produced a disciplined performance for much of the innings, keeping Watford from running away with the game. Jesant was the pick of the attack, finishing with an excellent 4/50 from his 10 overs, while Jack backed him up with 3/35, also Iqbal chipped in with 1/42

Watford's middle order provided the bulk of their resistance. Murug Thiru top-scored with 40, while Aadil Hussain made 34 and Abubaker Shahid 31. Ibrar Hanif remained unbeaten on 32 as Watford closed on 236/8 from their 50 overs.

Northwood's chase got off to a difficult start, with Rohit Bahl falling for a duck, but Suvin quickly settled into his innings and provided the resistance Town desperately needed.

Mekwan played a fantastic knock of 56, showing excellent composure as wickets fell around him. His innings gave Northwood hope of mounting a successful chase, particularly when he was joined by Iqbal Anjum. The pair began to build a promising partnership and briefly looked capable of putting Northwood back in the contest.

However, the breakthrough came at a crucial moment. Mekwan attempted to push a delivery close to his body through the off side, only to find his resistance ended. Anjum followed soon after, given LBW for 13, and from there Northwood's chase unravelled.

With Mekwan and Anjum back in the pavilion, there was little further resistance from the Northwood batting order. Jack Daly battled through to an unbeaten 14, but wickets continued to fall and Town were eventually dismissed for 144 in 32.5 overs, leaving Watford with a 92-run victory.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Northwood. The bowlers had given the side a genuine opportunity by restricting Watford to a manageable total, and Mekwan's excellent 56 had provided a platform during the chase. Unfortunately, once the key partnership between Mekwan and Anjum was broken, Northwood were unable to find the runs needed.

With promotion the target, it was a result that Northwood could ill afford, but the season is not over yet. The challenge now is to regroup, respond and finish the campaign strongly.
