Scorecard

Northampton Exiles II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 04 May 2019 at 1:00 PM
Match was Abandoned (Gentleman's draw, match rained off after 12 overs in 2nd innings)

Match report Firstly an honour to be leading the side out for the first time this season. Thank you to every player on the pitch who supported me both with their advice and on pitch effort.

A really tough start to the season despite the match being a friendly. NE won the toss and elected to bat first. Start of the match was delayed due to rain and unfortunatley that set the tone for the rest of the afternoon, poor weather conditions, bitterly cold and gusty. All in all an afternoon of "extreme cricketing" !

NE got off to a flyer...really not much more to say, their scorecard says it all.

The fielding conditions were extremely challenging, the ball was difficult to grip, the outfield slippery and the wind causing uncontrollable drift across the pitch. Despite the conditions lots of very positive performances across the board. Shami took the solitary wicket, a miss timed attempted flick to leg saw the ball rocket up and despite the ball twisting and turning like a tornado, the safe and strong hands of Dominic took a well controlled catch.

The afternoon was an opportunity for everyone to turn their arm over. Several good overs from Kishan making most of what pace he could generate from the sticky wicket. Dominic bought the pace down and bowled some challenging deliveries to the two in form batsmen. Pradip managed to get some late movement out of the pitch. James was pitching the ball in good areas and extracting some bounce. Abdul helped slow the pace and forced to batsmen to use their feet and get forward to the ball, he manged to beat the bat on several occasions. JB unfortunately could only manage a couple of overs and picked up a leg injury. Finally and not leastly Suki magiced up turn and bounce, striking some off-spin body blows to both batsmen.

Town's innings was cut short after 12 overs as the heavens opened up yet again. Some text book drives from Harshil, Ali and Pradip were a real treat to watch, however after mutual agreement with the opposition captain the game was abadoned at 34 for 2.

My main priority was that everyone got some pitch time so definitely box ticked. Let's continue to work on our fitness levels during the week and fingers crossed no more layering up for the rest of the season.....C'mon 3s....and the sunshine !!
