Northampton Exiles II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 Aug 2019 at 1:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets.
Match report
Town arrived at the Clowes to resume the friendly rivalry with Exiles, weather predictions were a mix of cloud and sun, the pitch looked good and after winning the toss, town decided to bowl 1st.
New ball was shared between Malik and Brahmbhatt, both started well and got the Exiles openers under pressure with some tight lengths but the 1st breakthrough came from Mapara who fielded brilliantly at square leg and got the non striker out with a direct hit despite Gordhandas and Malik both being in his way and stumps. Malik bowling beautifully soon got Exiles no 2 and 4 out by cleaning them up and Exiles were 24/3 in 10 overs and were under the pump. Plum on the other hand was looking solid and started to rebuild the Exiles innings with Patel. Bowling change introduced Mapara into the attack, Patel played some good cut shots to some of the classic 1st over loose deliveries from Mapara but that was it, Mapara got Patel out to a short delivery that touched his gloves and settled into Gairola's gloves breaking a decent partnership. Malik finished a fine full spell for 24 in return of 2 wickets.
Gordhandas introduced into the attack and got Exiles no 6 cleaned up on his 1st delivery and Mapara trapped no 7 in the next over making 60/6 in 20 overs. Plum on the other end was still there surviving quite a few close calls and was desperate for someone from other end to hold the end. He got what he needed in the form of Kellman, who defended every single deliver with a straight bat and was quite clear in leaving the deliveries. Together both of them kept defending and took Exiles to 80/6 in the next 10 overs. Another bowling change was introduced and Anjum was now into the attack and Exiles partnership now set, started to take their chances and scored couple of boundaries before Anjum cleaned Plum with a beautiful delivery making it 100/7 in 36 overs. Skipper wanted to close the game now and got Mapara back into the attach along with Bhrambhatt and straight away Mapara cleaned up the Exiles tail ending up taking 5 wickets. Bharambhatt was unlucky to not have picked-up any wicket.
At the tea interval, town were delighted with their bowling effort and knew the job was only half done and knew the pitch would be tricky to bat on. After a lovely tea, town started their chase with Ramawat and Gairola. Gairola waisted no time and despatched Arif for couple of boundaries in his first over but got out trying to loft him again in his next over at mid-off. Anjum joined Ramawat in the middle and together they started to rebuild the innings. The odd boundaries came and good deliveries were given full respect. In the 8th over, skipper Ramawat played some lover cut and drive shots to collect 3 boundaries and gave a momentum to the town innings and at the end of 10th over, they were 36/1. Arif who was bowling beautifully from 1 end troubled Ramawat with his slow out swinging deliveries but in his last over of the spell, was hit for couple of fours by Anjum who was now well settled after having some initial troubles with a barrage of yorkers from Kishor.
Both batsmen now well settled, made full use of anything loose by despatching them to the boundaries and defended anything good. Town chased the modest total of 120 in the 25th over but not before both the batsmen got to their 50s.
It was a fantastic win that was laid by some excellent work from the bowlers earlier in the innings. A 'MoM' effort by Mapara in the field, by removing 6 exiles batsmen followed up by solid performances with the bat from Ramawat and Anjum. Over all a very comprehensive win by the town to beat rivals Exiles. We move on.
