Cheshunt Rosedale v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 13 Jul 2019 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
With the top 2 teams in the division playing each other Town travelled to Cheshunt Rosedale looking to take an advantage. After winning the toss on what looked like a batting paradise Loomba had no hesitation choosing to bat first.
However Town top order clearly didn’t think so and lost 4 wickets early to find themselves 67/4 in 27 overs. Loomba stranded at one end looking in imperious form was looking for someone to put their hand up and play a supporting inning. In came Mihir Patel AKA MK AKA The Undertaker. MK started playing a very calm and controlled inning rotating strike and giving Loomba an opportunity to face as many balls as possible. Soon Town started ticking specially Loomba who went up a gear or two and started hitting boundaries, in doing so he passed his 50. Meanwhile at the other end MK just kept taking singles building a patient inning. Together they put on 77 runs partnership in just 16 overs. Loomba got caught on the boundary for 86 trying to put a bad ball away. Loomba’s fine chance less inning came to an end and missed out on a well-deserved century. Departing Loomba gave MK an opportunity to open up and play freely and out of nowhere started hitting fours and sixes for fun! MK passed his 50 with a humongous six over deep square leg. MK Supported well by R Kotecha put on 55 in just 7 overs and a score over 200 was looking very likely. MK soon got out for a well-played inning of 72. A perfect inning which also deserved a century. Late cameo from K Pate ensured Town finished on 234 in 50 overs a score which looked unlikely as half way stage of their inning.
After the tea Town took to the field confident of defending the target. But Cheshunt openers started well racing to 35 in 7 overs. After J Daly removed the opener Town started to become sloppy in the field, few dropped catches and midfields allowed Cheshunt to put on 90 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket and Town were struggling to restrict the runs. Fine spin bowling from both end by K Patel and M Patel meant required run rate started to go up. K Patel picked up 2 wickets and the spin twins 20 overs only went for 62 runs. Town were back in control of the game and when R Kotecha came in to take 2 wickets which included the opener who played a good inning of 66. But sloppy fielding continued to allow Cheshunt batsmen to put the pressure on Town. With the game going down the wire Cheshunt needed 11 to win from the last over Richardson hit a big six from the fifth ball to get Cheshunt over the line winning by 4 wickets.
Loomba spoke after the game: We felt we were always 15-20 runs short but our top order collapse meant we had to consolidate. Sloppy fielding yet again costed us dearly in the last 10 overs.
League leaders Parkfield & Headstone travel will travel to chestnut avenue this week in a must win game for the Town!!!
