Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI v North Harrow on Sun 08 Sep 2019 at 1:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost By 2 Wickets
Match report
NTCC welcomed a friendly North Harrow team to Chestnut Avenue on a lovely Sunday for Cricket. With some recent good games NTCC development Sunday side were eager to play well and earn a win. Winning the toss worse for wear skipper Jack decided to bat with the team arriving in drabs.
Town started watchfully with Keeran and Shaw batting sensibly. Growing in confidence the opening pair continued well and Town lost their first wicket in the 23rd over after some patient bowling. By which time Keeran had already reached an excellent 50 and Shaw showed promise, both scoring when possible against good bowling. Both batsmen getting themselves well in and looking to attack they set up an excellent foundation. Akshar came and went quickly, going after the bowlers early. Jay then entered and continued with the shotmaking, the score always ticking forward he played some beautiful shots putting the bowlers on the back foot. James fell LBW with Hurmain departing soon after and it looked like town might fall well below par. The final 8 overs going for 60+ made sure Town reached a good score. Carrigan and Daly Ran well and hit the loose balls for 4. An excellent platform was set by the opening partnership and some added impetus from Jay made sure we had a decent score to defend.
A lovely tea was provided by the Shaw Family, many thanks to Cheryl and Adam for once again stepping up. Also to Tushar and Viral for coming to support!
Opening the bowling Lourdes and Rudra Started brilliantly, making chances. Both finding a lovely rhythm and hitting some good areas the opposition were impressed with the young attack. Their watchful openers however batted well and were in a similar situation at about 70 without loss. James Rich and Carrigan replaced both young openers, bowling a tandem spell with James picking up a couple with some lovely variation. Carrigan can count himself unlucky not to have picked something up for his efforts. With Sajid batting well the game was in the balance and town needed some wickets. Jay replaced Rob and Bowled with tremendous swing, beating the batsman plenty and eventually taking the top of off with an away swinger. Removing the danger man. He grabbed another with some tight bowling really stepping up in a difficult situation. Well bowled young man. Daly trundled in at the other end and picked up another. With the batsmen looking to score quickly they tried to attack young Shaw and he bagged 2 essential wickets. The game was right in the balance but North Harrow ran well and scrambled some extras taking them just over the line.
North Harrow were a lovely team and played with great spirit. Many thanks for being such nice opponents and guests. Our young players did exceptionally well in an exciting game. Town never stopped believing they could win it and brought themselves back in the game. It goes to show that every run counts and with just a couple more to defend the game could have been ours. Special mention to JB the ultimate team player, coming to field and help out, refusing to bat, all to get the young lads a proper game. I think all of the seniors enjoyed watching them do well and we know they will continue to grow into excellent players.
