Match report After the recent washouts and pull outs, Northwood Town's third eleven were thankful to be back in league action welcoming Rickmansworth's fourth eleven. It wasn't all plain sailing. With much of the Northwood Town home side arriving after the opposition. We must do better. Skipper for the day Abdul Firfire was somewhat thankful to be put into bat by the opposition and decided to open with Suresh Kumar and Mairaj Mobeen who has shown much promise batting down the order. Mairaj showed great resolve and character to see through the new ball bowlers who were swinging the ball around corners. Ably assisted by Harshil 'BBC' Palan (32) they put on an excellent second wicket partnership. Palan especially playing some easy on the eye cover drives. Trying to press on the score Town promoted some big hitters which didn't pay off and skipper Firfire came out to bat in the 28th over with the side being 5 wickets down. Together with Mairaj (59 not out) and Firfire (22 not out) put on 55 runs for the 6th wicket closing out the innings on 151-5. At the time skipper Firfire felt the total was little below par. Special mention should go to Mairaj Mobeen who carried his bat through the innings showing great ability and temperament. After a brief 'bring your own buffet' Town set about bowling. The young whippets of Lourdes Kumar (8-0-3-16) and Rudra Shah (5-1-2-7) showing skill well above their years combining to make a formidable partnership akin to Broad and Anderson. First change bowlers Shaw (8-0-1-18) and Gordhandas (8-2-2-12) kept things very tight picking up wickets out of sheer pressure. Some great catching by Keeran Sudagarna and a drop but having the awareness to still execute a run out with the batsman up and down more times than Bambi on Ice allowed Town to wrap up victory in 29.5 overs. A supper effort by the entire team. Man of the Match: M. Mobeen for his 59 not out carrying his bat and a worldly catch at backward point.
