Langleybury II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 01 Aug 2020 at 12:00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 100 runs
Match report
On a warm day and what looked a fantastic track, Town won the toss and batted first.
Opening up, Loomba's bad luck continued as he was dismissed second ball caught behind. Modi and Vadgama went about building a very important partnership, rotating well and punishing any loose deliveries. Tiring out the Langleybury bowlers and putting on a 116 run partnership before Vadgama was dismissed for 45. Losing Burt and Unalkat in quick succession meant Lawrence had to come in and steady the ship which he did very well, ably supporting Modi as he pushed on closer to his hundred. Powerful punches in the V defined this knock from Modi - a masterclass on how to play straight as Langleybury bowlers suffered blow after blow. With pure jubilation, Modi reached his century in what is one of the finer innings by a Northwood Town player in recent years. Cameos from Aggarwal and Kotecha helped propel the final score to 240 which was just over par on a good batting wicket.
In response, Langleybury started well, making use of the pace on offer and the fast outfield as they reached 35-0 off 5 overs. Deciding to continue with the opening pair, Towns patience paid off as Daly got Walker - Langleybury 1s Championship batsman - nicking off to Veers safe hands at second slip. From here onward both Daly and Lawrence really turned the screw and kept runs down to a minimum and being unlucky to not get more than one wicket each. With some fantastic fielding at mid wicket from Keval Patel, the dive caused an injury to his knee and he has to sit out for the rest of the game leaving town with just 10 men. Aggarwal was introduced who bowled with great variation introducing slower balls and cutters. K. Patel bowled fantastically well and didnt allow the Langleybury batsmen to up the ante despite an increasing required run rate and also picked up 3 very valuable wickets before they could push onto a big score. Raj Kotecha continued his dream run with the ball, bowling perfect lengths until he tried bowling the quicker ball which caused a reccurence of a dislocated shoulder. With the ambulance service too busy, Jack Daly kindly offered to take Kotecha to Watford General to put his arm back into his socket. Everyone at the club wishes Raj Kotecha a speedy recovery - he was having a remarkable season with the ball and we hope he will come back stronger next year.
With town now down to 8 - Langleybury kindly offered a player to help field. Gaps were everywhere and Loomba had lost 2 of his strike bowlers as well as Daly who was the best fielder in the side. In times of trouble on the cricket field, Loomba often turns to Vadgama to get the side through a tricky patch. Once again Vadgama proved his talent, completely bulldozing the Langleybury lower middle order and tail. With 7 fielders - Vadgama could have done the job with just himself and the keeper as he quickly wrapped up the game for town with figures of 3.1 overs, 4 wickets for 5 runs.
Town stay top of the league and welcome 3rd place Rickmansworth to Chestnut next week.
