Berkhamsted IV v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 18 Jun 2022 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost BY 6 WICKETS
Match report
What a difference a day makes.
After basking in sunshine on Friday with the temperature in the Mid 30's; Saturday brought grey clouds, intermittent showers and a day for double jumpers.
The Town 3's travelled to Berkhamsted looking to get back to ways. After the losing the toss Town 3's were put into bat on a tacky sweaty wicket that had been under covers. A difficult wicket to bat on together with some excellent bowling restricted town to 23 runs in the opening 10 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. In came S. Sudagaran (17) to bat with Ajay Lal (72) who together started getting the run rate going with Sudagaran falling just before drinks. Post drinks Puwar (18) struck up partnership with Lal and they put on 58 together.
Lal batted with aplomb. defending the good balls and 'lambchopping' the bad balls away. A blueprint on constructing a superb innings. Lal's score helped Town 3's get up to 162 from 40 overs and a that could prove tricky.
Post interval the Berkhamsted batting found it just as tricky to bat. However, too many loose balls allowed them to get on top of the run rate. Breakthroughs were just not happening. A change of bowling really stifled the runs though. Puwar (6-1-8-0) & Tripathi (6-0-16-3) with a wicket finally falling on 19.5 overs. But then the heavens opened up and 35 minutes of play were lost.
The umpires advised a revised target of 123 in 30 overs. An ultimately easier task with 9 wickets in had. Berkhamsted knocked of the runs with 4 balls to spare.
