West Herts VI v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 21 May 2022 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 28 runs

Match report NTCC 4s continued their campaign this weekend and traveled to West Herts VI in North Watford. 4s won the toss and on what appeared to be a dry but patchy wicket inserted the opposition to bat.

4s opening pair of Mitesh and Henry bowled with supremacy and skill. Henry troubling the batsmen with his pace and bounce off good length deliveries. At the other end Mitesh was moving the ball both ways off the pitch. The West Herts top order struggled. Parmar picked up a plumb LBW in his 2nd over by which time the 4s vocal chords had certainly warmed up from all of the appealing. Myring took a brilliant caught & bowled in his 3rd over to leave the opposition reeling at 10 for 2 after 6 overs. Mitesh picked up 2 more wickets by the end of his 8 over spell with Puwar's medium pace applying pressure at the other end, the opposition pushed on to 75 for 5 at the 20 over drinks break. After drinks skipper Lal slowed down the pace of the bowling attack, Puwar returned to conventional off spin ably supported by Dhiren and Dhaval at the other end. The change in pace bought 3 valuable wickets from Puwar and 2 from Dhaval. Both bowled sensibly whilst knowing that the opposition were desperately short of a defendable target. A mid order blast from the opposition's number 6 gave West Herts a glimmer of hope and were all out for 126. Another fantastic 4s bowling and fielding effort.

After the 25 minute tea interval, opening pair of JB and Lal were re-united to launch the 4s innings. Both batted steadily and solidly, defending anything on the stumps whilst driving and dabbling anything wide. The score edged up to 45 for no loss after 17 overs when JB decided to up the ante and cut a short wide ball over point, a good hit was matched by excellent fielding and JB was caught for 17. Opener Lal had earlier suffered a wardrobe malfunction, his helmet strap broke and was forced to use a helmet that he was not custom too. This meant his concentration was lost as he continually adjusted his replacement helmet in between deliveries. In over 19 Lal decided to punish the new bowler early and lept forward to smash a wide off stump delivery through mid-wicket only for his helmet to slip, miss the ball and be stumped. At drinks 4s were 52 for 3 still capable of completing the run chase in the remaining 20 overs. After drinks, middle order partnership of Jaineel and Jaymin began the climb towards the total. Both played admirably and struck the ball to the boundary on several occasions. The opposition were starting to sweat and introduced their leg spinner into the attack. The change in bowling slowed down the 4s run rate and by 30th over Jaineel and Jaymin had fallen but not before scoring a a much needed 20 run partnership. 4s were all out in the 37th over for 98 falling 28 runs short of the target.

We learnt we needed more partnerships throughout the innings, however yet another cohesive and professionally spirited performance, onwards chaps .....
