Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Northchurch on Sat 20 May 2023 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 74 runs

Match report Northwood Towns first team finally get their league season underway after weeks of waiting due to bad weather. With a beautiful day of cricket ahead Town were keen to get stuck in.

After pre match jobs and a nice warm up stand in skipper Jack lost the toss on a wicket that was sure to do more up front. Being sent into bat Rahul and Nischay started where they left from last year. Punishing the bad ball and waiting for it well. With the ball doing all sorts early on they did a fantastic job taking Town to 70 for no loss. As the innings went on it became a little easier for the batters.

Veer coming in at 3 carried on, back to good form in s dogficult spot. He was soon joined by Deepak who batted beautifully even with an injury. With confidence growing and thr field spread Town became more aggressive and the run setting was joined by Kishan and Tushar who pushed the score past 200. It was a great innings with a lot of contributions. 200 playing like many more, especially with the difficultiy early on. Northchurch failed to capitalise on chances made by their bowlers and Town took the opportunity.

Knowing the pitch was flattening out nicely and playin much truer, Town would need to use the new ball well. Daly and Vadgama started well and bowled fewer loose deliveries than their Northchurch counterparts. Building the innings well they were in a similar situation to Town with 70 for no loss. The Town field, especially Mairaj and Burty backing their bowlers brilliantly meant the run rate was getting to batters and the introduction of Kishan took out one danger man with Iqbal making chances at the other end.

Nischay came on and caught on fire, consistently breaking the new batters and taking their set opener. Jesant from the other end tied things up and took some for himself. Northchurch tried to fightback but the introduction of Mairaj finished things off clinically. The 10 Northchurch wickets falling for 50 runs.
Town seamers might not have made I roads but the spinners were critical. It went to show how well our batters did in the first innings.

Temporary skipper, or vice vice Daly as he is also known, was very proud to lead the team for his first time. It was an excellent performance with Kishan and Mairaj on debut putting in 100% effort and that showing in the result. There is a lot to take out of a game like this especially witha cold start to the season. Town seam attack didn't do enough early on but with everyone giving it their best Town came out on top comfortably. Nischay with a man of the match performance. This win was set up with a well above par score so well done to the batters. Veer, Rahul and deepak in particular.
