Tewin v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 26 Aug 2023 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 158 runs

Match report Town travelled to Tewin knowing only a win would keep their promotion hope alive. Looking at the pitch which looked unprepared Town skipper won the toss and decided to bowl first.

That was going to be the only thing that went Town’s way on the day. Tewin started the inning very well as Town struggled to make a breakthrough. However, R Shah made the breakthrough removing dangerous looking J Crutchett leaving Tewin on 69/1 which became 71/2 as Anjum coming on to bowl got a wicket straight away. But from then on Tewin started building partnerships first A Patel and Tewin skipper L Wilde added 50 runs for the 3rd wicket. And when Madhavan removed Patel Tewin put on 4th wicket partnership of 79 runs. Tewin skipper was in sublime touch punishing any loose delivery. Despite Daly coming back to pick up 3 wickets Tewin finished their inning on 270/7 from 50 overs with L Wilde 106*. It was a chanceless inning which involved some hard hitting and great running between the wicket. Tewin batters showed how not every over is about hitting a boundary. Their running between the wickets was exceptional constantly putting Town fielders under pressure forcing mistakes.

Town started badly found themselves 44/4 and only the in-form A Burt showed any fight with the bat scoring 30. J Daly tried to support him with 18* but Town were all out for 112 losing by 158 runs.

Skipper K Patel spoke after the game: On not being able to get promoted obviously it’s very difficult to take but Tewin fully deserved it. We’ve had a great season challenging for the league as well as promotion but last few weeks we haven’t played our best cricket and that’s reflected in results we’ve had. We still have one game where we will say goodbye to club legend and dear friend Lawrence. We want to give him a right send off with a win.
