Old Eastcotians v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 10 Jun 2023 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets

Match report On a glorious summer day, NTCC 3s travelled to Cassiobury Park to play Old Eastcotians. 3s won the toss and decided to start their innings under the shade by batting first.

Openers Pradip and Smit started solidly reaching 20 after 5 overs. A mis-guided stroke from Smit saw skipper Lal enter the fray. Pradip continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over whilst Lal held fort at the non-striker end. Lal fell to a mistimed cover drive in the 12th over with the score on 37. Young batting veteran Sageeran played himself skillfully onto the scoreboard scoring a rapid and powerful 36. He was ably supported by Meet (25) who peppered the boundary in 53 run partnership. The innings run rate was continued with Jaymin (23) and Ganesh (15) helping to push the score to a respectable 161 in the allotted 40 overs.

The opposition started their innings with a positive intent reaching the 50 run mark in the 10th over. Our strike bowlers were unable to make the early inroads that have previously typified the Town bowling attack. Tight bowling from Ganesh and Meet reigned back the run rate but wickets were in drought. Further bowling changes bought in JB and Pradip and the entire tempo of the game changed. JB flighted, twisted and turned the red ball of leather confusing and outwitting the batsmen resulting in 2 wickets. Pradip bowled with his usual prowess and guile sneaking into the stumps on 3 occasions and earning himself an LBW appeal. Unfortunately the pressure was too much too late and the opposition batsmen rang the closing bell in the 37th over. With perhaps another 20-30 runs on the board we would have tipped the scales in our favour.

Overall a well executed game, we were pipped at the post but a thoroughly enjoyable outing on the maidan. Fielding standards were improved however fitness continues to be a challenge. Onwards to the next encounter.
