Mayfield CC v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 13 May 2023 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 136 runs

Match report Having had their league game cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, the 2's managed to find an away game to play last minute against Mayfield CC, a social cricket club based in North London. After turning up to the grounds on a cold, windy and damp day, Town tossed up and were put into bat with Ravi and Bijendra heading up the batting line up for NTCC.

Starting cautiously but positively, Town were looking okay until Ravi fell victim to the damp pitch with the delivery that bowled him holding back and the sticky wicket claiming it's first victim of the day. Nischay Madhavan was the man to replace Ravi and after a couple of overs, Nisch and Bijendra started well, running hard between the wickets and soon carried a partnership of 45 till Bijendra fell to the skipper, bowled as the skipper gave a fantastic send off. Cijine came in and soon put together a partnership of 45, playing well with Nisch till Nisch then fell trying to accelerate the run rate. In came Deepak to replace Nisch and with Cijine, they managed a 49 run partnership, really carrying the team on till Cijine was stumped and Deepak was caught out. Wickets started to tumble consistently for Town but small cameos from Krunal Puwar and Pratik Patel allowed Town to reach 183 in 41 overs, a good score given the conditions.

After a quick tea break, Town headed out to defend 184 and opening the bowling up for the 2s was Hiren Halai and Pratik Patel, both bowling tight lines and keeping runs to a minimum. Efficient bowling from these two and the suffocation from runs allowed NTCC to sit back and let Mayfield cause mistakes and this resulted in a fantastic opening bowling partnership with Hiren and Pratik taking 2 wickets each, conceding only 23 runs in the first 15 overs and bowling 6 maidens in that time. Having finished their spell, replacing Hiren and Pratik was Thinooach and Krunal Puwar, who came on to start wrapping things up for Town. Thinooach bowled really well, keeping runs low and bowling4 maidens in his 6 overs with 3 of those maidens being wicket maidens and conceding 5 runs for 4 wickets in his 6 over spell. Krunal Puwar came under fire early on by the opposition's wicket keeper for being the only spinner. However, an edge and a great catch from Smit as well as bowling out the tailender batsman allowed Krunal to take 2 wickets and Town ended the game with a very strong performance, bowling the oppo out for 47 in 26 overs.

A great bowling, batting and fielding performance and a lot of positives to take heading into the league game with Ware next week. Well done boys and onto the next game!
