Match report On a rather gloomy overcast day, NTCC hosted West Herts V XI. The toss was lost and NTCC was inserted onto what appeared to be a fairly dry and batting-friendly wicket.
The NTCC top order struggled again this week to read the pitch accurately with the top 5 batsmen struggling to reach double figures. The pitch was slow and spongy and shots had to be played with timing and patience. It was our Bollywood superstar Pradip who once again demonstrated his skill at the crease scoring a backbone innings of 33 off 76 deliveries. Pradip was careful and considerate of the pitch and ran well as the boundaries were hard to come by due to the outfield still being damp from the rains in the early part of the week. Skipper Kishan played solid through but was unable to show his normal dashing flair scoring 14 off 43 deliveries.
A flurry from Neel in the last 10 overs gave some ray of hope that NTCC would surpass the 130 mark, however, a hamstring injury pulled Neel in the last few overs of the innings and his strike rate of 80+ was the one bright event in the final score of 103.
Tea was swiftly consumed and after a rousing team talk by the skipper, NTCC took the field to defend a tough score.
Runs were given away earlier due to some imprecise bowling and some unfortunate dropped catches in both the in and outfield. These dropped catches were clearly the difference between the two teams today. West Herts had taken some very good catches during our inning to apply additional batting pressure on top of the slow pitch. Our bowlers labored patiently but yet again we made poor use of our own facilities to control the game. Pradip yet again being the pick of the bowlers. The game was wrapped up in the 30th over with NTCC only managing to take 6 wickets.
