Match report NTCC Crumble After Promising Start Against League Leaders Markyate

NTCC travelled to top-of-the-table Markyate on a bright afternoon, with captain Shah losing the toss and being asked to field first. Aware of Markyate’s reputation for explosive batting, NTCC’s new-ball pair, Rudra and Jeet, began with clear intent.

Rudra set the tone early with a fiery opening spell, ripping through the top order and claiming three crucial wickets. Among them was a highlight moment—a sharp catch from Mitesh at point that dismissed one of Markyate’s key batters. Jeet complemented Rudra superbly from the other end, bowling with accuracy and keeping the pressure high.

The momentum was sustained with the introduction of first-change bowlers Krunal Puwar and Stanley. Krunal picked up a vital breakthrough, further denting the home side’s progress. At 90/5, NTCC looked firmly in control.

However, the match turned dramatically thanks to a sensational counter-attack by Markyate’s number 7, who smashed 96 runs off just 55 deliveries. His aggressive stroke play dismantled the NTCC attack, while the number 5 batsman played the anchor role to perfection, rotating the strike and holding the innings together. Despite NTCC’s early dominance, Markyate surged to an imposing 238/6 from their allotted 40 overs.

In response, NTCC’s chase never gained traction. Facing disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, the batting lineup faltered under pressure. Wickets fell at regular intervals, with no partnership able to establish control. What followed was arguably the side’s most disappointing batting effort of the season, as the team was bundled out for just 52 runs—falling 186 runs short of the target.

It was a harsh lesson in momentum and application, as NTCC were left to rue what could have been after such a promising start with the ball.

Captain Shah after the game:
“Markyate showed us why they are number one on the table. But again, a massive disappointment from our top six batsmen – they just can’t stay at the crease for more than two minutes. It’s happening again and again, and it’s very disappointing. But we move on — bring on next week. It’s a must-win game for us to bounce back.”
