Redbourn CC 3rd XI v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 08 Aug 2026 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Northwood Town Cricket Club’s Saturday 2nd XI suffered a painful seven-wicket defeat against Redbourn CC 3rd XI after a dramatic collapse saw a promising position turn into an all-out total of just 110.
Having appeared to be on course for a total of more than 200, Northwood’s innings unravelled spectacularly, losing their final seven wickets for just 45 runs. The collapse left the side stunned and handed Redbourn a modest target of 111, which they chased down in 30.5 overs, finishing on 111 for 3.
Charlie Cadman top-scored for Northwood with an impressive 35 from 32 balls, striking six fours in an innings played at a healthy strike rate of 109.38. Sanjay Shukla also provided valuable momentum, scoring 23 from just 21 deliveries, including four boundaries.
Stanley Babukutty added a useful 12 from 15 balls, while Mitesh Pondha contributed 12 from 28. However, once the wickets began to fall, Northwood struggled to rebuild any momentum. Four batters were dismissed without reaching double figures, with Aarya Puwar, Ruchi Patel and Krunal Puwar all falling for ducks.
The Redbourn bowling attack deserves significant credit for capitalising on the opportunity. Toby Irwin was outstanding, finishing with remarkable figures of 7 overs, 4 maidens, 10 runs and 4 wickets. Chris Rose was equally impressive, taking 4 wickets for 14 runs from 5.5 overs, including three maidens.
With 15 extras also added, Northwood were eventually dismissed for 110.
Redbourn's reply was controlled despite some disciplined Northwood bowling. Chris Hawkins and Nigel Wellsbury both made 18 before falling, but George Dalton anchored the innings with an unbeaten 39 from 55 balls, including six fours. Fraser Wright then provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 11 from just 10 deliveries.
Northwood’s bowlers did make an impact. Stanley Babukutty, Kishan Bharodiya and Krunal Puwar each claimed a wicket, with all three conceding only 24–25 runs from their eight-over spells. However, the target was simply too low to put sufficient pressure on the Redbourn batting line-up.
Redbourn reached 111 for 3 in 30.5 overs to secure a seven-wicket victory.
A collapse that was hard to explain
Speaking after the match, the Northwood captain summed up the disappointment of the afternoon:
“I’ve never seen a collapse in our batting line-up like this. At one stage we were expecting to score over 200, and suddenly we were all out for 110. It truly hurts.”
The defeat will be particularly frustrating given how promising the innings had initially looked. Northwood had the opportunity to post a substantial total, but a combination of excellent Redbourn bowling and a sudden loss of wickets turned the match on its head.
The challenge now is to learn from the collapse and ensure that the strong starts and promising positions the side creates are converted into match-winning totals in the weeks ahead.
