Northwood CC v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 11 May 2019 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report A gutsy performance from the 3s this week, unfortunately the toss was the winner :(

Town were inserted onto a damp, sticky wicket. As predicted a batsmen's nightmare and bowler's paradise. Town lost Lal in the 2nd over trying to pull a short delivery through mid wicket, the bowl stayed low (and yes it must have been low given Lal's height!) smashing into the middle of off stump. Rawson and Palan held on for a few more overs negotiating the low and skiddy bounce as best they could. Rawson was in the mood to damage whilst Palan continued to play straight to see off the opening attack. Both fell to low skiddish and frankly unplayable deliveries. JB played some lovely up and over shots, unfortunately missing out on boundaries as the ball stuck into the outfield refusing to roll over the line. Abdul and Kishan both played balls that held up and were caught out playing their shots too early. At this stage Town were 5 wickets down for a miserly 34 runs - the going was extremely tough.......and in came the tough in the shape of Rob Fanner. Rob taught us all a lesson in textbook cricket batting, his shot selection and timing was superb, striking 5 boundaries through the swamp. Rob Fanner was admirably supported by Town's recent signing Rob Carrigan and together they steadied the ship and started to trouble the scorer. Given the conditions Rob Fanner hit an impressive 33 - respect. The last few wickets fell cheaply and Town had amassed a grand score of 74.

After a relaxing tea, Mitesh and JB opened the bowling. Mitesh bowled accurate line and length and was eventually awarded an LBW that would have hit leg stump ( I know 'cos I was standing behind the wicket and appealed the loudest !). JB beautifully flighted the ball and forced the batsmen to think twice about their shot selection and was unlucky to have had both openers caught mistiming strokes. A canny bowling change bought on the vice captin Kishan who proceeded to wave his magic dust over the pitch and pick-up four vital wickets in quick succession. Two of his victims were cleaned bowled to deliveries that cut back in viciously, his 3rd victim was caught down leg side by Lal and the 4th scalp was an amazing gymnastic caught & bowled, Kishan's spell was almost a game changer. Our fielding was energetic and unforgiving, Myring and Shaw were fabulous in the outfield backing up their bowlers and preventing what would have been certain boundaries. Close-up Rob Carrigan and Abdul were scaring the living daylights out of the top order batsmen with their vulture like close fieldingThe opposition however held on and reached their target of 75 with a comfortable 13 overs to spare.

All in all a really positive day for The Town, lots of take aways (not the KFC variety though).....onwards.
