Match report Driving out to Old Cholmeleians, Town knew that if they were to have any chance of staying up, they needed a win today to keep them going. After winning the toss, Town chose to bat first and so Deepak and Ravi headed out to get Town off to a good start. Old Cholm’s line and length bowling slowed Town’s start, dismissing Deepak early on, bring Akshay onto the pitch with Ravi. After a hesitant start, Akshay and Ravi put on a great partnership, putting away all the bad balls and running quick singles, driving pressure back onto the bowlers. After drinks, Akshay was unfortunately caught behind and that brought out Iqbal, who got started immediately, scoring a quick 30. Ravi’s 76, and some additional runs from others carried Town over to a good 195 – 6 in 40 overs.

After a 20-minute tea break, Town headed out to defend their total and their chance of safety. Opening the bowling for Town was Henry Myring and Sajid Malik, who both bowled with great intensity and accuracy to give Town the start they wanted. Henry Myring bowled with such intensity and accuracy that the openers for Old Cholmeleians had no clue about what to do, nudging the balls around for a few singles and blocking every other delivery. A great bit of bowling from young Henry and some ridiculous positional work from Iqbal allowed Town to make breakthroughs very early, with Cholmeleians down to 9 – 3 after 6 overs. After 8 overs, Old Cholmeleians were down to 15 – 4 after a fantastic bowled from Sajid, both Henry and the skipper sharing two wickets each. Iqbal soon came into the attack and delivered quickly with a nifty LBW that stopped Old Cholmeleians from building up momentum. Alongside Iqbal came in Mairaj and Cijine, both who bowled well and put the sword to Old Cholmeleians, with Mairaj taking 2, Iqbal taking 2 and Cijine claiming a wicket and killing the game off for Town, continuing NTCC’s momentum into the next week.

This win was the result of great teamwork, good fielding and players stepping up when it was necessary and all of these points helped Town build more and more as they headed towards the end of the season.
