Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Radlett IV on Sat 08 Jul 2023 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 59 runs
Match report
Playing against Radlett on a muggy day with a not so great forecast, Town completed their jobs and waited for their opponents to turn up (Radlett have conceded against Bushey and Pinner) to play. The forecast meant Town were keen to get the game on as Radlett would look to get the game called off to share the points so skipper Sajid headed off to toss up with the Radlett skipper, winning the toss and for some reason, deciding to bat first.
Town got ready to start but just as Town were ready, the heavens opened and the weather tried to say no to the game ahead with rain delaying the start by approxiamately 30 minutes. A very relaxed Town turned out to bat around 1.30 in a reduced overs game of 34 overs with Bijendra and Ben Rawson Jones opening the batting. Both batsmen started well with Bijendra taking a few balls to adjust to the odd bounce and then dispatching three boundaries and putting pressure on the opposition. Trying to press Radlett further, Bijendra looked to hit over the top of the bowlers and unfortunately missed, being bowled and bringing Town their first wicket. Coming out to replace Bijendra was Ravi, who faced the pace bowler coming down the hill and unluckily gloved a short ball straight to the keeper, returning back shortly. Keeran came in at 4 and once having a few deliveries to see the pitch settled and started rotating the strike. At this point in time is when Ben Rawson Jones, felt an issue with his quad and had to retire hurt, bringing Cijine out to the crease for the first time in a couple of weeks. Both Keeran and Cijine started well and Keeran looked to pick the run rate but then played at one slightly wider and guided straight to slip's hands. Town's wickets kept tumbling with Cijine looking for a partner till number 9 Ibbad came out. Both batters played extremely well, dispatching bad balls and running quick singles, infuriating the Radlett bowling attack and putting a quick 50 partnership on the board, taking Town to 123 - 10.
A quick tea break and Town headed out to bowl and as the sun came out, Town started well with Hiren opening the bowling, starting with a very tight over. Skipper Sajid started his first over with a bang, bowling the opening batsman with a yorker length delivery. Hiren continued to bowl well and bowled the other opener out, clattering the stumps and Town started off really positively as Saj and Hiren worked through the top 4. Ben Rawson Jones came in and with his injured quad, bowled really well, taking 3 wickets and bowled in tandem with Krunal Puwar, who bowled out batsman number 8 and number 10. Radlett's tailenders showed some resistance but Town's bowlers really stuck to their lines and ultimately bowled Radlett out for 64 in 24.4 overs, claiming a great victory after a very average batting performance.
Great win boys and onto Pinner next week!
