Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Luton Town & Indians CC 4th XI on Sat 16 May 2026 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost By 70 runs

Match report Roll on week 2 of the season and after a glorious April, we now beckon on a drizzly and overcast May. But let’s not dwell on that, our resident Mr Fish (Stanley B) assures us that summer is coming!

Now back to the cricket. Captain Jambulingam correctly called the toss, much to the pleasure of his team and elected to bowl. Just as well, the pitch had been under cover overnight and was tacky first up. The opening bowlers went about their business. Stanley from the Chesterton Drive end and the skipper himself from the Highland Road end. The skipper getting reward with his first over, bowling their opening bat and Stanley getting into the act in his fifth over.

The second change bowlers really turned the screws. Kishan B bamboozling the opponents with his masterful art of spin, flight and guile. Vishal S, in his first outing for 2026 had a wayward first over but then found his zone. Ably assisted by Ben Rawson- Jones & Dhaval Shah, Town stifled the Luton Town & Indians scoring rate and holding them to 136-10 in 35.3 overs. Special mention to Priyan ‘Golden Arm’ Ghoyal who picked two wickets in his only over, which he would admit probably weren’t that deserving of a wicket, but hey this is cricket!

After a 20 minute tea break it was time for Town to start the chase. Whilst the wicket was hard and had dried out, the clouds had descended bringing darkness to proceedings. Firfire & Rawson-Jones opened the batting but both struggled to pick the ball with a lack of sightscreen and were bowled in quick succession by Lovepreet (8-2-19-3). Well let’s make that the Top 6 who all failed to hit double digits with 4 getting ducks, with the other opening bowler Govindasamy (8-2-19-5). Town found themselves in a heap of trouble at 6 wickets down for 10 runs after 4 overs.

Cue the drizzle which helped bring a bit of light through and a change of bowlers who weren’t quite as potent and Town started the rebuilding process. The lower order showed a bit of wag, by prizing their wicket and managed to bat through to the 31st over.

Not a great day for the 3rd XI. Hard questions need to be asked on what can be done to improve the performance and ultimately results.
